How to get around Nagato

The main means of transportation within Nagato City are trains (JR) and buses, as well as cabs and rental cars.
Please note that some sights can only be reached by cab or rental car.

In recent years, there has been an increase in traffic accidents at tourist spots and in the city center of Nagato City.
We ask that you please drive carefully so that you can enjoy your stay and return home safely.

Railroad (JR Mine Line and Sanin Main Line)

*About JR Mine Line and Sanin Main Line (as of August 2023)

Due to the heavy rain disaster, the JR Mine Line is currently suspended on all lines, and the Sanin Main Line is suspended between Nagato City Station and Kogushi Station.

Please refer to the information on the JR West official website below for the substitute bus service.

The trains in Nagato City are one- or two-car trains that cross the Mine Line, which runs vertically from the inland sea side to the Sea of Japan, and the San-in Line, which crosses along the beautiful Sea of Japan from Yamaguchi Prefecture to Kyoto Prefecture.
The trains running in Nagato City are not motorized, but diesel-powered diesel trains with a unique engine sound, and the orange trains run along the beautiful cobalt blue Sea of Japan.
Many of the stations are unmanned, and passengers sometimes pay their fares on board the train, just like buses. Nagato City Station is manned.

There are many sightseeing spots in Nagato City that are not served by buses or trains, so it is convenient to take a cab from the nearest station. Jumbo cabs are also recommended if you are coming in a group.
Motonosumi Shrine and Senjojiki are accessible only by cab or rental car.
