Ancient shrine located in Higashi-Fukagawa Fujinaka (Funju)
Iiyama Hachimangu Shrine is an ancient shrine located in Higashi Fukagawa Fujinaka (Funju). It is said that the shrine was dedicated at Minato no Hama in the Nara period (710-794) and moved to its present location in the early Heian period (794-1185). The shrine was built in the middle of the Muromachi period by Washigashira Hirotada, a member of the Ouchi clan and lord of Nagato Fukagawa Castle. The shrine has in its collection a masterpiece, "Chicken," by local Japanese painter Kanda Settei, who was active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period (1868-1912). The "Kitaura area saber-sending", a prefectural folk cultural asset, starts from Iiyama Hachimangu Shrine.
