Tawarajima island is a small island at the tip of the Mukatsuku Peninsula, 900 m in circumference and 30 m in height, made entirely of basalt. It is called Tawara-jima because it looks like a stack of rice bales stacked vertically. The nearby beach is outcropped with limestone veins containing lithospermum and is a good place for fishing.
The area is designated as a national scenic spot, so it is forbidden to take rocks or other objects out of the designated area.
