Enjoy sports in Yamaguchi's nature and environment

On Sunday, March 23, 2025, a pre-event of "SEA TO SUMMIT 2025" was held between Nagato City and Mine City in Yamaguchi Prefecture. SEA TO SUMMIT" is a sporting event that brings people in touch with nature and the environment through kayaking, biking, and mountain climbing. Participants started with sea kayaking (3.0 km) at "Igami Auto Campsite" in Aburaya, Nagato City. They will cycle between Nagato City and Mine City (54.0km) and hike (2.8km) around the karst land of "Akiyoshidai" to reach the goal, which is 59.8km away in total length.

Start from Nagato-shi, Aburatani, Igami Seaside Park Auto Camp Ground

Early in the morning, an opening ceremony was held at the starting point, Igami Auto Campsite, and everyone boarded their sea kayaks.

The pledge of allegiance was administered by Hiroshi Oda, announcer of tys TV Yamaguchi.

The course was set up to take visitors around Aburaya Bay, and everyone returned to the beach in about 30 minutes to an hour.

After leaving the beach, we will switch to bicycles and ride between Aburatani, Nagato City, and Mine City to the goal point, Akiyoshidai.

Aid 1) Tawarayama Gymnasium

After the first mountain climb, we will stop at an aid in the Tawarayama area of Nagato City. In Tawarayama, famous for its hot springs known for their effective effects, participants are treated to "monkey buns," a specialty of the Tawarayama hot spring area, and "wild grass tea" made by local residents.

Aid 2: Beppu Benten Pond

Next is the aid station at Beppu Benten Pond in Mine City. At this aid, participants were served the famous "Bentenjiru," a miso soup with many ingredients and kakimochi (rice cakes), and enjoyed the warm taste of the soup. Participants also visited the Benten Pond at the back of the aid and enjoyed taking commemorative photos of the beautiful spring water, which was selected as one of the 100 best waters in Japan.

Aid 3) Akiyoshidai, Chojagamori Parking Lot

Akiyoshidai is the finish point of the bicycle ride and the start of the mountain climb. At the aid station, participants will be served Akiyoshidai's specialty "Yama-yaki Dango" and "Mito Gobo Potato Chip" made from "Mito Gobo", a specialty of Mine City. In addition, curry and other dishes were served at a kitchen car on standby, and after enjoying lunch, participants aimed for the goal of the climb by running or walking.
