Hands-on workshops to enjoy autumn in the arts

On Saturday, October 12, 2024, "Preserved Flower Experience" was held at Cafe Struggle in Senzaki district. This is a special autumn program of Nagato's "Nagatrip" collection of hands-on programs.

The instructor is Ms. Yuki Suenaga, who presides over the flower arrangement school "fleur edge". Ms. Suenaga is a certified floral technician (1st class) by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, and has received many domestic and international awards for her floral arrangements. She is also active in organizing events to familiarize herself with flowers.

At 10:30 in the morning, we gathered at the cafe to begin the experience. The first step was to choose the flowers of your choice and create the foundation of the arrangement. Using preserved(*) flowers and foliage, the participants create an arrangement of their choice.

(*This technology preserves flowers for a long period of time and keeps them looking more like fresh flowers than dried flowers.)

The flowers used were chosen from a set that the teacher had prepared in advance. When the bags were opened, the delicious scent of flowers wafted into the hall.

Think about the placement of the flowers you want to show first, and paste them on the base with glue.

At the moment of glue application and placement, people were saying, "I'm so nervous ......" and "I'm so nervous.

Dr. Suenaga advises everyone on the placement of flowers.

Each flower has its own role to play, and it is important to find the right balance between large, medium, and small flowers." I was impressed by his words.

The finished original artwork will be placed in a bottle to take home. Everyone was able to create a work of art that was full of individuality.

Once the work is completed, we will have a cake set from Cafe Struggle.

While enjoying the café time, we were also able to listen to Ms. Suenaga's episodes about her activities and thoughts through flowers, and encounters with people that flowers gave her.

In the -△ experience, there was also a display of works by Mr. Suenaga using plaster and other materials.

We were able to enjoy the "autumn of art" in a fun way.

This experience will be held again on November 30. We look forward to seeing you there.
