Today (Saturday, October 21), "Nagato Blue Ocean Ride with Akiyoshidai 2023" was held in Nagato City and Mine City. This is an event where cyclists can enjoy the spectacular scenery and food of both cities. While riding through the spectacular ocean and mountain scenery, local delicacies were served at aid points along the course. In this article, we will report on the event mainly in Nagato City, along with photos.
This year, there were two courses available: the "Cycling Course," which took participants along the main course, and the "Cycle Bus Course," in which participants rode the bus along with their bicycles to the finish line. 343 people participated in all.
The start and finish line was "Roadside Station Senza Kitchen" in the Senzaki district of Nagato City, where many riders gathered from early in the morning.
The tour started at 7:40 a.m. as scheduled under the crisp, clear autumn morning sun. After departing from "Roadside Station Senza Kitchen," the tour headed south through the Misumi district on the east side of Nagato City, heading for Akiyoshidai in Mine City. From Akiyoshidai, the tour will again enter the Tawarayama district on the south side of Nagato City, and then return to the "Roadside Station Senza Kitchen" while going around the Yutani district on the west side to reach the goal.
Returning from Mine City, we will go to Tawarayama. Satoyama Station Tawarayama will serve "Satoyama Food Lunch Box" as well as local San-no-kusa tea.
As the name suggests, this cute lunch set is full of ingredients from Tawarayama. Meals were available not only inside the facility, but also while viewing the satoyama scenery.
After leaving the aid station, we will now go to the Aburaya district on the west side of Nagato City. We will leave the mountain road and head out to the sea.
Oda Ohama campsite offered sweets and drinks from cafe&pottery Oto, a cafe in Nagato Yumoto Onsen, as well as Nagato's famous snack fish cake "cheese koron".
Departing from this aid, it was finally time for the last spurt!
Return to Senzaki through the Hioki district.
We headed to "Roadside Station Senza Kitchen" where we left in the morning. Everyone passes through the gate with a smile.
Participants in the "Cycle Bus Course" also returned directly to the finish line from the Mine City Aid in a special Nishitetsu Bus "Cycle Cargo" vehicle.
Participants were handed "Choshu Dori Chicken Curry" and other souvenirs as well as ice cream as a reward.
This year we enjoyed beautiful scenery with stunning fall weather. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
