On Friday, May 7, the Mukozugu Double Marathon Executive Committee announced the cancellation of the 5th JAL Mukozugu Double Marathon (scheduled for Sunday, June 13). According to the committee, "In view of the increasing number of areas throughout Japan that are subject to emergency declarations and priority measures to prevent the spread of the disease, and the rapid increase in the number of infections caused by mutant strains throughout the country, including Yamaguchi Prefecture, we have decided to cancel the event in order to eliminate the risk of infection and anxiety for all those involved in the event, including participants, volunteer staff and local residents who will cheer along the roads. The decision was based on the judgment that "it is difficult to eliminate the risk of infection and the anxiety of everyone involved in the event, including participants, volunteer staff, and local residents who will be cheering along the race route.
The next year's conference will be announced as soon as a decision is made.
