Cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, small birds floating on the river at night
For 10 days from February 8 (Sat.) to 17 (Mon.), the "Daneiji River Utaakari" event is being held around the Daneiji River, which runs from the hot spring resort area of Nagato Yumoto Onsen to Daneiji Temple, to enjoy winter nights as last year.
On the first day of the festival, Saturday, August 8, after 5:00 p.m., three types of "lights" were lit on the still-lighted Daneiji River.
Inspired by the poems "The Cherry Tree" and "The Carta of Autumn Leaves" by Misuzu Kaneko, a children's song poet born in Senzaki, Nagato City, the "cherry tree" and "autumn leaves" lights created last year were joined this year by the motif of a small bird from one of her representative works "Me, a Little Bird and a Bell".
The total number of lights is as many as 50, each measuring approximately 1 meter in length and width.
It was created under the supervision of lighting designer Shiho Nagamachi of LEM Space Studio, which is in charge of nighttime landscaping in the renovation of the hot spring resort area, and was made with local residents and children, with LED lights wrapped around metal frames by hand.
As the sun sets, the light reflects off the water surface, creating a magical space.
Visitors viewing the river from the bridge can be heard clicking the shutters of their cameras and smart phones.
Floating lights on the river turned a familiar scene into something special.
Warmth and deliciousness by the river
This year, food vendors will be open only on February 8 (Sat) and 15 (Sat) during the festival.
Smoke was dancing in the riverside plaza where the Otosore River Terrace is located even before 5:00 p.m., when sales began.
A variety of warm dishes that taste even better on a night like this.
First, yakitori from Sakura Shokudo and beer and hot wine from OSOTO to savor together.
cafe&pottery Oto, the first of the renovated Nagato Yumoto Onsen, will serve its well-known hot coffee and cheesecake. A.side, a take-out kitchen created by renovating a warehouse next to Arakawa Foods, another local grocery store, will serve warm zenzai.
A riverside space decorated with song lights, as if stepping into the world of Misuzu Kaneko's poetry.
You will be able to enjoy such a night until Monday the 17th of this month, and food stalls are scheduled to open again on Saturday the 15th, so be sure to visit Nagato Yumoto Onsen.
