On Sunday, April 7, the "Yumoto Onsen Festival" was held with the Onshin River River Park in Nagato Yumoto Onsen as the main venue. This year, the cherry blossoms were just in full bloom and many visitors came to see the festival amidst a cherry blossom snowstorm.
This festival is held every year at this time to express gratitude for the blessings of the hot springs and to express the development of the area.
At 9:00 a.m., children's mikoshi (portable shrine for children) from Minose, Yumoto, and Monzen departed from Sumiyoshi Shrine. Wearing blue happi coats, the children paraded through their respective districts, calling out "wasshoi wasshoi" as they went.
After receiving money donations, "Thank you! and the mikoshi is shaken up and down to the rhythm of the flute. Some children jumped to make the bell on the mikoshi ring louder.
The temperature that day was nearly 20 degrees Celsius. The children paraded around continuously shouting all the way, so we took a short break at the Kirakira Bridge. Don't forget to take a commemorative photo.
Rehydrated and with recovered strength, we set out again in good spirits.
After that, we will head to the Ondonokawa River Park via the other half of the way.
The children were all smiles as they paraded happily and energetically through the streets. Adults and passersby were all smiles as they watched the children.
Before noon, a Shinto ritual was held at Sumiyoshi Shrine, where hot spring inns, government officials, and local residents prayed for the future development of Yumoto Onsen.
This year, " Onyu " is scheduled to open in November. This will be a year of major changes for Nagato Yumoto Onsen.
Many stalls and stage events were held at the Ondonokawa River Park.
Yakitori and zenzai stalls were lined up, and the stage events featured live acoustic performances and hula dancing. In the children's corner, target shooting was the most popular event.
Also, the day before, there was a forecast that it might rain, so the staff hurriedly set up the tents in the evening. However, the weather was fine on the day of the event. The tents worked differently than expected because of the strong sunshine.
The cherry blossom snowstorm was so beautiful that this year's "Yumoto Onsen Festival" became an event that also included cherry blossom viewing.
Among them are children who have finished the children's mikoshi.
Some families were seen relaxing while soaking in the footbath in the river park, which was decorated with cherry petals.
On this day, cherry blossom viewing was held at Nagato Yumoto Onsen and other places in the city. I am sure that everyone was able to feel the spring in their own way on this first weekend of the new year.
This year, the hot spring resort town, which shows different expressions depending on the season, will make great progress in its tourism town development. Please keep your eyes on the ever-changing Nagato Yumoto Onsen.
