Lively opening

On Saturday, August 3, the "21st Misuzu Tanabata Bamboo Festival" was held in the Senzaki Misuzu Street area.

One after another, locals and visitors in yukata (summer kimono) arrived, and the festival began with the sound of a gun.

The opening parade featured a marching band performance by Senzaki Elementary School, and passersby stopped to watch the performance.

Tanabata decorations full of individuality

Senzaki Misuzu Street, which stretches about 1 km, is lined with bamboo branches decorated with handmade Tanabata decorations.

Some are made up of a series of fine rings, some are made up of more than 1,000 cranes, and some are shaped like fish.

We start making these Tanabata decorations little by little every year around April or May.

They range from simple to complex, and a particularly elaborate one is a Tanabata decoration passed down from his grandmother.

These unique Tanabata decorations are very tasteful because they show movement when the wind blows or people pass by.

All with the help of the local community.

All of the stalls lining both sides of the road are set up by local residents.

While the space was also homey, it was also a great place to chat with visitors who came from far away.

Many local teams participated in the "Misuzu Ondo So Odori" (dance performance), and many people shouted "Hi! Hi! Many local teams participated in the "Misuzu Ondo So-Dance," parading down the Senzaki Misuzu Street with shouts of "Hi!

Night on Senzaki Misuzu Street

As the sun goes down and the light gradually dims, the lanterns are lit.

The festival began with a change in the look of the venue and a more relaxed atmosphere.

On the stage, dancing by maiko and Senzaki Gion music were performed, and the audience enjoyed the sounds of summer festivals and the splendid dancing by four girls aged 5 to 12.

It was very cute and impressive to see each girl meet the dance teacher before her cue, make eye contact with her, and then begin her dance.

Even after all the programs were over and the closing time approached, people still lined up at the stalls and took pictures of the Tanabata decorations, enjoying the festival to the very end.

The 21st Misuzu Tanabata Bamboo Festival" drew a large crowd again this year.

The best part of this festival is that you can enjoy the changes in the Tanabata decorations every year.

What kind of Tanabata decorations will be displayed next year?
