Bon dance festival with full of coolness

On Sunday, August 11, the 54th Nagato Yumoto Onsen Noryo Bon Dance Festival was held at Nagato Yumoto Onsen.

This year, the event was moved to the Onshin River Park area due to the construction work being carried out in various parts of the hot spring resort area in conjunction with the tourism town development.

The venue is bustling with colorful yukata as parents and children and Bon Odori participants arrive one after another.

The weather was perfect for the festival, with a pleasant breeze blowing from time to time.

A free photo booth will be set up in a corner of the river park, where photos will be printed and given away on the spot.

They were very happy to be able to preserve their special summer memories in photos, with costumes made especially for the occasion and the whole family dressed in yukata together.

Hot spring resort heading into the night

As the sun gradually sets, the lanterns are lit and the hot spring resort area changes to a nighttime atmosphere.

Gradually, Bon Odori participants gathered around the yagura and the Bon Odori started at 7:30 p.m.

This year, a total of 14 teams, including children's groups, senior citizens' groups, and workplace grooves, participated.

The space was very festive, with matching happi coats, handmade costumes, and some of the groups dressed up in costumes.

From the bridge, the lively space and the atmosphere of the hot spring resort were a perfect match.

The Bon Odori was divided into one and two parts, with "Seirei-nagashi" in between.

Lanterns that flow slowly, slowly, slowly.

The time was quiet, a stark contrast to the Bon Odori dance, and visitors sent their thoughts off to their ancestors.

Bon Dancing at its best

And the second part.

Once again, the Bon Odori dance began.

The event will be even more exciting with the lingering heat of the first part.

The shouts became so loud that they reverberated through the hall.

With their glistening sweat and big smiles, even those watching naturally smiled, and some even shouted along.

In no time at all, the Bon Odori dance was over. At the end, the entire audience applauded loudly.

the very end

After the Bon Odori dance, a mini live performance started on stage. The audience was excited by a variety of up-tempo songs.

The stalls lining the river park were also crowded with people who had finished dancing.

What struck me was how satisfied the backs of the people on their way home looked.

I realized that this festival is looked forward to every year and is loved by the community.

This fiscal year, Nagato Yumoto Onsen is being reborn with construction and renovation work underway in various parts of the hot spring resort.

Next year's Bon Odori Festival will also be different from this year's event, with a different atmosphere.
