On October 4 (Fri.), a press conference was held at the main hall of Daneiji Temple for Hoshino Resort, which is working with Nagato City to create a tourist town in Nagato Yumoto Onsen, with the completion and opening of facilities and stores scheduled for March 2020. The media's attention to the project has been growing even more intense.
In front of about 40 members of the press and media, Mayor Onishi first introduced the public facilities under construction, which are scheduled to be completed in phases beginning in January 2020, including a new parking lot and bamboo stairs leading to the "Onyu" outdoor hot spring.
Next, Mr. Kazuhiro Otani, co-chairman of Nagato Yumori Corporation, explained the progress of the project to rebuild "Ontou," an outdoor hot spring. Scheduled to open next March, "Ontou" will be transformed into a facility where visitors can better enjoy the historic and famous hot spring, with a bathtub in which hot spring water can be seen gushing from the bedrock and a traditional deep bath one meter deep.
In addition, a restaurant facility, Ondoshoku, is scheduled to open across the street from Ondoyu.
In addition to dishes featuring Nagato City's famous chicken and tofu, and other local ingredients, the menu will also include sweets made from Nagato City eggs, Yamaguchi herbal tea, local sake and naturals wines, and other items that can be enjoyed while walking around the hot spring resort area.

The press conference was followed by site tours of "Hoshino Resort KAI Nagato" and "Onyu" under construction.
Currently, renovation projects of vacant houses are underway in three locations in the hot spring resort area.
The tour included a visit to the "Nagaya Project," a project to renovate a vacant house on the opposite bank of "Kai Nagato" into a café and bar. Mr. Daigo Kimura of Yutorio Real Estate, the owner of the project, was in charge of explaining the project. He introduced the space where visitors can relax and enjoy the view of the Ondin River.
Nagato Yumoto Onsen will undergo major changes this fall and winter. Centered around the main area where the "Onyu" out-spa is located, souvenir shops and bars renovated from vacant houses will open one after another, creating a hot spring resort area where visitors can enjoy strolling around. This day was a reminder that an exciting future is approaching for Nagato Yumoto Onsen.
