Players and coaches become yakitori chefs

Shimano Racing, a bicycle road race team, has been in training camp based in Nagato City since Sunday, October 6.

The team is one of the leaders of cycling in Japan, having produced this year's All-Japan Cycling Championships Road Race winner Shotaro Iribe, and will also be a guest rider at the cycling event "Nagato Blue Ocean Ride with Akiyoshidai" to be held in our city on Saturday, November 23. The team will also be a guest rider at the "Nagato Blue Ocean Ride with Akiyoshidai" cycling event to be held in our city on November 23.

On the last day, Thursday, the 10th, they stopped by Yakitoriya Chikuzen Sohonten, a yakitori restaurant in the city, and tried their hand at grilling and tasting yakitori themselves.

This experience was included in Naga Trip 2019, a hands-on tourism program held this summer. This program allows you to not only taste but also see up close the artisans' skills, which are difficult and profound because of their simplicity.

The first step is a process called "skewering," in which the chicken is skewered.

Each of them had a different way of hitting, and they were happily finishing up four pieces of Momo, Kawa, Seseri, and Sunazuri.

Yakitori in Nagato City is a style of fresh chicken meat served with salt.

Feeling like an artisan, he sprinkles salt and stands in front of the actual grilling table used in the store to grill over charcoal.

After tasting the freshly grilled meat, everyone commented on how tender it was and how they would like to try skewering the meat themselves after returning home. They smiled and said that they would come back to eat yakitori again when they have another training camp in Nagato City.

Bicycle exchange program at Fukagawa Junior High School

In the afternoon, a "Bicycle Experience Exchange" was held in the gymnasium of Fukagawa Junior High School for the school's second-year students.

First, Director Notera introduced the athletes and competitions, then asked the students, "Do you know what the three major sporting events in the world are?" he asked the students. He told them that along with the Olympics and the soccer World Cup, the other one is the "Tour de France," and that cycling is the most popular sport in the world.

Shimano Racing is a long-distance road racing team. The students, who were not familiar with cycling, were surprised to hear that the team competes in 50 races a year, covering hundreds of kilometers at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.

Next, participants experienced up-close the speed of Naogo Ichimaru, who competes in track events. The audience was impressed by the speed of the athlete on the rollers, who was able to reach speeds of nearly 100 km/h at a moment's notice.

Afterwards, the participants were divided into three groups for free exchange.

First, the characteristics of the bicycle body were explained.

The material, shape, and everything else about the riders' road bikes are different from the bicycles that the students normally use.

Holding one of the tires, one can't help but smile and say, "It's so light! and a smile breaks out on your face.

At the end of the event, participants actually got on a road bike and pedaled it as if they were a rider. The participants enjoyed this precious time while learning how to ride and pedal from the riders.

The chime rang just as the students were getting into their road bikes, and the 50-minute class ended quickly.

The riders gave their impressions one by one, and concluded by saying, "I hope this day will be a good opportunity for people to get interested in road biking.
