Do you know the old road in Nagato?

The special exhibition " Nagato Ouchi Yukemuri Kaido " is currently being held at the Nagato History and Folklore Museum.

This exhibition introduces seven roads in the prefecture that have been certified as part of the Yume Kaido Renaissance promoted by the National Federation of Economic Organizations and the Chugoku Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Through the "Nagato Ouchi Yukemuri Kaido", of which Nagato City has received certification, there is also an exhibition of materials from the perspective of the past, present, and future of the "road".

What is Yume Kaido Renaissance?

Roads in the Chugoku region, which preserve history and culture to this day, are recognized as "Yume Kaido Renaissance Certified Districts".

Seeking hints that lead to "the Way."

There are three Akamaseki Kaido routes connecting Hagi and Shimonoseki: the Naka-michiji via Akagi, Hagi City; the Kitaura-michi via Kawatana, Shimonoseki City; and the Kita-michi via Yumoto and Tawarayama, Nagato City.

The "Nagato-Ouchi Yukemuri Kaido" is a 10-km road included in the "Kitamichi Suji" (North Road Suji).

Currently, preservation activities and events are being held by the Nagato Ouchi Yukemuri Kaido Council, and the activities of the council are also on display.

The "Nagato-Tawarayama Road," which opened last year, is also introduced, and visitors can compare the old road with the new road, with comments on how they felt at the time.

Other explanations of how the "road" was built and what great people have been involved with it, based on old documents and drawings, are also available.

The staff member said, "We are open to any kind of approach. We are happy if you focus on the "path" that is indispensable to us today in any way, whether from a new path or from a great person.

Why not use this exhibition as an opportunity to learn a little about the history of "roads" that are indispensable to us all?

This exhibition will run through Sunday, January 17, 2021, with a gallery talk and walking event scheduled for Sunday, December 13.
