Exhibition "The Words of Painter Yasuo Kozuki" at the Yasuo Kozuki Museum of Art!

There are some things that are more beautiful when they are known, but there are many things that are more beautiful when they remain unknown. (Yasuo Kagetsu was born in Misumi, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, in 1911, and was drafted into the Japanese army at the age of 32. After the war, he was interned in Siberia by the Soviet Army, and did not return to Japan until two years after the war ended. After returning to Japan, he continued his creative activities in his hometown of Misumi, and ended his life of 62 years in March 1974. While painting as a painter, Kagetsu was also involved in a wide range of creative activities, including making objects from scrap wood called "toys," painting on Hagi ware, and illustrating books, and he left behind an enormous amount of work. In addition to his works, he has also left behind many of his own words. These include his autograph commentary on the "Siberian Series," his masterpiece depicting his memories of the war and internment in Siberia, as well as his columns in magazines and newspapers. These words reveal Kougetsu's experiences and feelings at the time. In this exhibition, we will introduce some of these words left by Kagetsu, which reveal his feelings at the time of creation and his personality, together with his works, to provide a closer look at his way of life. We are sure that you will discover a new side of Yasuo Kagetsu.
