The Nagato City regional program of the 23rd World Scout Jamboree, "Wasshoi", will be held from July 30 to August 6 at the main venue of Achisu Kirara Beach! Nagato Summer Festival".
The event will be held at the Renesa Nagato Nagato General Gymnasium, and will include a Japanese cultural experience and exchange corner with taiko performances, Gion music, calligraphy, kendama, etc., and "Wasshoi Nagato So Odori" in which everyone dances around a yagura like Bon Odori (Bon dance). Since the first World Scout Jamboree was held in England in 1920, it has been held every four years as an educational event for middle and high school students. The most recent event was the 21st Jamboree held in the United Kingdom in 2007, and the 22nd Jamboree in Sweden in 2011. This is the second time the event has been held in Japan since Shizuoka in 1971. A total of 30,000 people from Yamaguchi Prefecture, 480 of whom are expected to visit Nagato City.
