On Sunday, February 28, "Nagato Tourism Culture Seminar Fieldwork" was held at various locations in Nagato City. This is one of the training courses for "Nagato Tourism Concierge," a program to develop human resources capable of providing hospitality unique to Nagato City, and participants learn by actually experiencing Nagato's sightseeing spots.
The first experience was on the "Qinghai Island Tourist Steamship. Captain Okamura guided us around the "Kannon-do Course" aboard the Pink Thetas.
While enjoying the beautiful scenery of Qinghai Island, which is different from that on land, participants listened to Captain Okamura's commentary.
Next, we moved to Misumi to visit the Murata Seifu Memorial Museum. The tour included an explanation of the achievements of Murata Seifu, who devoted himself to restoring the finances of the Choshu domain at the end of the Edo period, and a tour of his home, Misumi Sanso.
After returning to Senzaki and taking a lunch break, a walking tour was conducted under the "Senzaki Town Walk" program. Led by the guides of the "Nagato Volunteer Guide Association," which has been conducting the Senzaki town walk for many years, the tour traced the history of Senzaki and the footsteps of the children's song poet, Misuzu Kaneko.
At the end of the town walk, we arrived at Henshoji Temple, where Misuzu Kaneko's grave is located. The priest gave us a lecture.
The last fieldwork of the day took us to "Hyakusoan" in the Mukozugu area. Here, salt is uniquely produced from the mineral-rich seawater nurtured by the nutrient-rich land and beautiful sea. We were given a tour of the "three-dimensional salt field" and salt pans that support the salt production process.
Fieldwork will take place again in March.
