Omijima Island Diving Spots

IN from the beach! Experience a blue underwater cave!

Omijima Island, located in Yamaguchi Prefecture's Kita-Nagato Kaigan National Park, is one of the best diving spots in Japan. The attraction is that you can enter the sea directly from the beach, making it safe and enjoyable even for beginners. This beach is a gravel beach, which prevents sand from rolling up, and boasts a stable high level of transparency. Although it faces the Sea of Japan, the topography is bay-shaped, and the shallow waters and relatively gentle currents make it easy to dive. Blue underwater caves can be seen in several places, and the scenery is out of this world beautiful. On days when the southerly wind blows strongly in this area, a current called Yushoryu occurs, causing the seawater in the coastal area and the deeper waters offshore to switch places. This current rarely causes deep-sea creatures to wander into the Omijima Island coast. This makes the sea very rich in plankton and fish. Cute underwater creatures can also be encountered! Because of the rare creatures that inhabit and wander into the sea, the island is famous as one of the best diving spots in Japan for photo divers (divers who take pictures of underwater creatures).
