In Nagato City, there are four municipal facilities (Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum, Kazuki Yasuo Museum of Art, Murata Seifu Memorial Museum, and Whale Museum) where you can experience the history and culture of the city. Please take advantage of this service.
*Links can be found on each facility's introduction page.
This memorial hall honors the achievements of Misuzu, a children's song poet from Senzaki, Nagato City, by following in her footsteps. It is also a center of exchange to support the cultural and creative activities of local residents and Misuzu fans who visit from all over Japan.
金子みすゞ記念館
This museum houses and exhibits the works of Yasuo Kagetsu, a Western-style painter from the former Misumi Town. The museum has restored his studio as it was when he was alive, and special exhibitions are held three times a year.
香月泰男美術館
This memorial hall introduces the footsteps and achievements of Murata Seifu and Shufu Masanosuke, who were central figures in the Choshu domain's policy reforms at the end of the Edo period. Visitors can view their personal belongings and documents from the time.
村田清風記念館
This museum preserves and exhibits materials related to the old-style whaling that was practiced in the Tong area of Qinghai Island. The museum contains valuable materials such as whaling tools and drums used for "whale songs" to mourn whales.
長門市くじら資料館
Common-use tickets that allow admission to the four museums (Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum, Yasuo Kouzuki Museum of Art, Seifu Murata Memorial Museum, and Whale Museum) with a single ticket are available at each facility.
This facility collects, preserves, and utilizes cultural assets related to the nature, history, and culture of Nagato City, and holds special exhibitions on a regular basis. Please stop by here, too!
長門市総合文化財センター「ヒストリアながと」
Located on the same site as Senza Kitchen, a roadside station facing the sea, this facility allows parents and children to enjoy playing with wooden toys together. The kids' cruise ship "Benten" also departs regularly from the museum.
