Peak Season and Foliage Updates

The autumn leaves in Nagato City can typically be enjoyed from November through December. The peak timing varies by location and tree species; for example, Tainei-ji Temple usually reaches its peak in mid-November.

Since the progression of the colors depends on the year's temperature and weather, please check local conditions before your visit.

This 88-step stairway connects Ochaya Koji Lane with the hot spring district. In the fall, the maples lining the stairs turn vibrant colors, and from the top, you can look down at the Otozure River framed by autumn leaves. One of the best parts of being in an onsen town is that you can easily stop by during a riverside walk or after a break at a cafe. Take a moment to look up at the trees and soak in the autumn atmosphere of Nagato Yumoto Onsen Town.

Night Illumination Planned

A special light-up event is planned for the Stairway of Autumn Colors. The trees take on a completely different character at night, so we highly recommend a night walk before or after dinner, or after relaxing in the hot springs.

Illumination is planned for 2026. Dates and times are yet to be determined and will be announced as soon as they are finalized.
