Tawarayama Onsen is said to have been discovered by Hakusaru, an incarnation of Yakushi Nyorai, in 916 A.D. (Engi 16), and was used as a therapeutic bath by the Choshu clan during the Edo period. Since its discovery, the onsen has continued to weave its history as a therapeutic hot spring for the local community.

In addition, there is a drinking fountain at Machinoyu, where you can enjoy drinking hot spring water and have a valuable experience of tasting high-quality hot spring water.

If you are planning a longer stay at a ryokan in Tawarayama Onsen, why not try a "Touji" (hot spring cure), which is said to have cured illnesses and injuries in ancient times. 1 week is one cycle, which is repeated 3 times (3 weeks in total) for full effect, but it may be arranged according to the length of your trip.

*At the beginning of bathing, take a shower or half-body bath to acclimate your body to the bath.
