2025 Nagato City Street Whale Festival” will be held (7/20)

A festival that recreates the heroism of the old-style whaling

The "2025 Nagato City Tori Whale Festival" will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Tori, Aomi Island, Nagato City. This event is a reenactment of the old-style whaling that took place in the Dori area of Nagato City during the Edo period.

At the festival, the "whale team," wearing red loincloths, chases a whale-like boat in a rowing Japanese-style boat, and finishes it off by harpooning and climbing on it. The scene of the heroic old-fashioned whaling of those days can be seen.

In the latter half of the festival, the traditional "Whale Song," which expresses condolences for the whales, will be performed. Please come and join us.
