2 days of marathon walking and workshops

On March 1 (Sat.) and 2 (Sun.), a 37-km trail marathon and a 16-km trail walk were held to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Nagato Trail, which connects the Hioki and Aburaya areas.

About 20 people participated in the marathon on Saturday, January 1, and about 50 in the walk on Sunday, February 2. Starting from Senjidashiki, participants enjoyed views from Higashigobata terraced rice fields, Amegadake, and other scenic spots as they headed toward the goal.

■Day 2

An aid station was set up around the former Bunyo Elementary School, where participants tasted lemon grass drinks, bread, sweets, and other items unique to the area.

One participant commented, "The course was steep at some points, but the warm hospitality at the aid stations and the support of the local people made it a memorable day.

On the same day, a workshop for making sandals called "wararachi" was held at the former Bunyo Elementary School, where participants chose their favorite materials and made their own original pair.

The "Nagato Trail" will continue in the future!
