From today (Friday, January 26) to Sunday, March 3, the "Onshin River Utaakari 2024 " lighting event will be held at Nagato Yumoto Hot Springs. The "Onshin River Utaakari 2024" event will illuminate the hot spring resort with lights featuring the works of Misuzu Kaneko, a children's song poet born in Senzaki, Nagato City. To commemorate the start of the event, an opening ceremony was held today at Onyu, a drop-in hot spring bath in Nagato Yumoto Onsen.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Mr. Shuichi Ito, representative of Nagato Yumoto Onsen Machi K.K., the organizer of the event, gave a speech, and on behalf of the guests, Mr. Tatsuya Ehara, mayor of Nagato City, and Mr. Toshiya Kasamoto, a member of the Yamaguchi Assembly, gave congratulatory speeches.

Next, Hayato Kimura, Area Manager of Nagato Yumoto Onsen Machi Co., Ltd. explained the overall planning of the event, and Shiho Nagamachi, Representative Director of LEM Space Studio, who was in charge of designing the lights, explained the lighting scheme.

Also on the stage as special guests were students from the local Koyo Elementary School. The students presented their involvement in "Utaakari," which they also worked on as part of their classes, as well as the charms of Nagato Yumoto Onsen that they had discovered.
After the ceremony, children performed a marching performance in the plaza in front of Onyu.
Mr. Setsuo Yazaki, Director of the Kaneko-Misuzu Memorial Museum, was moved and thanked everyone for their excellent performance.
As the sun began to set, it was time for the lighting ceremony. The visitors counted down the lights, and "Utaakari 2024" got underway!
