The exhibition "50 years after his death, Yasuo Kagetsu: The first phase 1931-1954" is now being held at the Yasuo Kagetsu Museum of Art in the Misumi district (until June 2 (Sun.), 2012).
This exhibition will comprehensively introduce the works of Kougetsu, who will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his death this year, by dividing the exhibition into three sessions over the course of a year. In this first exhibition, works from 1931, when he was an art student, through the war, to 1954, just before the publication of his masterpiece, Siberia Series, are on display.
The exhibition is composed entirely of items from the museum's collection, including drafts and drawings of the works. Together with items related to the artist and the Kougetsu family, this is a spectacular exhibit that is "only possible at the Yasuo Kougetsu Museum of Art.
You can see how Kougetsu has developed his own unique style of painting, incorporating both Western and Japanese painting techniques. We look forward to seeing you at the exhibition.
