Surrounded by lively roses
On Sunday, May 23, we visited " Satoyama Rose, " which is open to the public for a limited time in the Tawarayama area of Nagato City.
This rose garden was started by a couple about 15 years ago to manage their family's garden, abandoned farmland, and surrounding forests in an effort to revitalize a devastated satoyama.
This is the first time in two years that the park has been open to the public since last year, when it could not open due to prevention of the spread of the new coronavirus infection. This year, the park is open to the public for 15 days from Friday, May 21 to Friday, June 4.
This weekend, we were blessed with good weather in the middle of the rainy season, so we were able to view lively roses under blue skies.
Since it was the first time the garden had opened in two years, many visitors expressed their joy at being able to view the roses and their appreciation for the open garden to the couples.
Some of the visitors are rose growers and gardeners, and they paid attention to the way the "Satoyama Rose" roses were presented.
In addition to roses, visitors can also view native plants and horticultural plants and flowers that are native to Tawarayama, which they find very informative.
The rainy season began earlier than usual this year, and roses started blooming a little earlier than usual.
Some roses are at their best and others are just coming into bloom, so visitors can enjoy the growth of roses from buds to full bloom.
Inside the garden, visitors will find rest areas surrounded by roses, tunnels, roses arranged in glass, and other tantalizing spots.
The couple carefully creates each "Satoyama Rose" not only for the viewing of the roses, but also for the enjoyment of the space.
