Nagato Tourism Convention Association
Nagato City Tourism & Convention Association's "Nagatrip," an experience program development project, is planning new programs on a daily basis.
As part of the planning process, we recently visited Maruyama Suisan in the Tong district of Qinghai Island to have a special experience with the sea urchins being stored there and their taste.
Maruyama Suisan harvests skinny sea urchins, which are one of the causes of the "isoyaki phenomenon(*)," and works with Uninomics Inc. to raise them.

Almost empty sea urchins are harvested and slaughtered from the coast
When I first cracked open the shell, I was surprised at how packed the meat was! When I scooped up a spoon full of the meat and brought it to my mouth, the umami and aroma of the sea urchin filled my mouth along with its soft texture.
Even the local fishermen were impressed by the taste, saying, "It was even better than I expected! even a local fisherman gave his own stamp of approval.
We would like to create a program that allows visitors to fully experience the appeal of sea urchins here, where the improvement of the marine environment and the fishing industry come together. We are currently working on a plan. Please look forward to it!
