The theme is "the teahouse residence of the feudal lord.

Hoshino Resort KAI Nagato, the 16th facility of the "KAI" brand of hot spring inns developed by Hoshino Resort, will open in Nagato Yumoto Onsen on March 12 (Thursday).

Nagato Yumoto Onsen is said to have been a place where the feudal lords of the Mori clan used to visit for a hot-spring cure, so the interior of the hotel embodies samurai culture with a theme of "feudal lord's teahouse residence. The alcove in the guest rooms is decorated with works by Masahiro Sakakura, Takao Tahara, and Zen'emon Sakakura, all of whom are Hagiyaki Fukagawa kiln artists.

In addition, since Hoshino Resort and Nagato City are working together to create a hot spring resort town where visitors can enjoy strolling around, the Akebono Café, which is open to non-guests, and the Akebono Gate, which allows guests to casually walk out into the hot spring resort town, have been installed.

Area renovation of hot spring resort

On Wednesday, the 11th, the day before the event, a press conference was held at the museum, attended by over 40 media representatives.

First, Nagato City Mayor Ehara, Director Tamura of the Nagato City Department of Economy and Tourism, and Project Manager Izumi took the stage to review the city planning projects that have been underway.

Next, Mr. Otani, co-chairman of Nagato Yumori Corporation, introduced the "Onyu" drop-in bathhouse and the "Onyu Shoku" restaurant building, both of which were completed yesterday.

Mr. Kimura, who was appointed area manager of Nagato Yumoto Onsen Machi K.K. last month, also took the stage and shared his enthusiasm for the future of the hot spring resort.

In the end, Mr. Hoshino, the representative of Hoshino Resort, and Mr. Miho, the manager of Kai Nagato, explained about the concept of the Kai brand, which is "Royal but new. They also introduced "GOTOCHIRAKU," an activity to experience local traditional culture and crafts, and "GOTOCHIRAKU ROOMS," which reflect local characteristics.

Experience local culture and food

Upon entering the museum, the first thing you will see is the lobby decorated with paintings featuring Hagi ware and cherry trees.

In the coming spring, cherry blossoms will bloom along the Onshin River and the lobby will be tinted in cherry blossom colors. The design takes advantage of and incorporates the local nature.

On this day, local music titled "Adult Sumi-asobi" was being held in the space by the lobby.

While grinding ink on the Akama inkstone, a traditional craft of Yamaguchi Prefecture, and experiencing the aroma and quality of the ink, the participants will write their thoughts on a fan-shaped piece of patterned paper. The Akama inkstone, with its fine particles, is said to produce ink with good coloring and growth.

A store is also located in the lobby, where visitors can also get acquainted with the works of three Hagiyaki Fukagawa Kiln artists.

Next, we went to the guest rooms.

Using traditional Yamaguchi Prefecture crafts such as Tokuchi Washi paper, Hagi ware, Hagi glass, and Ouchi lacquerware in various parts of the room, together with the seasonal views from the windows, the name of the room is "Nagato Gosai no Ma," which is filled with five different attractions. The elevated bunks and lattice-like enclosure create a noble atmosphere.

In addition, all rooms in the annex have an open-air bath.

You will enjoy a peaceful and healing moment while feeling the green breeze outside.

The semi-private dining room offers kaiseki cuisine that makes the most of local seasonal ingredients, including Yamaguchi Prefecture's specialty squid and blowfish.

Houraku zari," an assortment of vinegared dishes and sashimi, is glamorously prepared using Hagiyaki vessels and handmade tubs.

The barrels were made by Akira Sakamura of the Hioki district of Nagato City, the only barrel craftsman in Yamaguchi Prefecture who was selected as a "master craftsman and master of the forest".

There are two types of large public baths in the building: an indoor bath and an outdoor bath.

In the indoor baths, visitors can enjoy two types of hot water: "lukewarm" hot spring water and "hot" hot spring water with high temperature.

This is a space where visitors can relax and enjoy the hot springs that once healed the feudal lords.

From Akebono Cafe to Sororowalking

This spring, Nagato Yumoto Onsen will be reborn as a hot spring resort where visitors can enjoy strolling around.

As one of the contents, "Kai Nagato" will have the first "Akebono Cafe" under the Kai brand, which will be open to guests other than hotel guests. Dorayaki (pancakes) made with Nagato Yuzukichi, a specialty citrus fruit of Yamaguchi Prefecture, and summer orange jam, as well as hot beverages, will be available for purchase.

A stroll through the hot spring resort town, starting from "Kai Nagato".

This renewal has created a series of new attractions that make strolling around Nagato Yumoto Onsen even more exciting, such as picturesque spots, spots for relaxation, and restaurants offering unique takeout menus.

In our next article, we will provide an event report of a walk through such a hot spring resort.
