On Saturday, June 15, the "Nagato Tourism Concierge Training Course" was held.
This course consists of two parts: a "Basic Course" to acquire knowledge of Nagato City and a "Hospitality Course" to enhance your hospitality skills, so that you can greet tourists with concierge-like hospitality.
The basic course consists of lectures and hands-on experience over a four-day period from June to August, and this was the first of the four courses.
The first group of about 30 participants gathered at Daneiji Temple in Fukagawa-Yumoto.
After the opening ceremony, the participants listened to a story about the history of Daneiji Temple and Lord Ouchi Yoshitaka from Chief Priest Keiyasu Iwata.
Looking over the pamphlet again, I think about the history that has been etched into this place.
Next, we went to the studio of Mr. Tohei Tahara of Hagiyaki Fukagawa Kiln, also in the Yumoto area.
We visited the climbing kiln and pottery making scene and learned about the history of Fukagawa Kiln and the characteristics of Hagi ware.
There were many nods of "huh" as he answered questions from the participants, such as the reason for the cutouts in the "kiri-kotai" or "split-kotai," and how to manage the tea and coffee after they were served.
In the afternoon, the venue was moved to the Hioki district.
Mr. Shosaku Okafuji, a local researcher at the Yamaguchi Prefectural Archives, told us about the "mountain castle" that once existed in the city and the "salt manufacturing" that took place in Aburaya Bay in ancient times.
The last stop is Nison-in, where the legend of Yang Kwei-Hee remains.
Mr. Tomoaki Tadachi, the chief priest, gave a romantic lecture on the origin of the name of the Mukozugu Peninsula and the legend that Yang Kwei-Hui drifted ashore at "Todoguchi" on the peninsula to escape from warfare.
We also visited the five-ring pagoda, which is said to be the "Tomb of Yang Kwei-Hui," and the first day's lecture came to an end.
Facing the sea on the west side of the Mukotsugu Peninsula, Karatoguchi is a place where black rocks and white waves create a mysterious atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the weather was unfavorable that day, and the scheduled site visit was cancelled. A staff member who later visited the spot for filming commented, "Even though it is the same sea of Nagato, the atmosphere here is a little different.
The first thing a "Nagato Tourism Concierge" needs to do is to experience the charms of Nagato City and gain experience and knowledge.
Although the first day had many historical elements, we will offer three more days of opportunities to enjoy learning about Nagato City from various perspectives. Nanavi" will continue to provide reports on the lectures.
