The world of Misuzu's poetry in "Akari

On January 20 (Sun), a workshop was held to create "motifs of light" named after poems by children's song poet Misuzu Kaneko, in preparation for the "Onshin River Utaakari" event scheduled for February 15 (Fri) and 16 (Sat) at Nagato Yumoto Onsen.

The supervision is by Shiho Nagamachi, a lighting designer at LEM Space Studio, who is in charge of nighttime scenery at the Nagato Yumoto Onsen Tourism Town Planning. Ms. Nagamachi's cheerful tone as she explains how to make the lights makes us excited to see what kind of "lights" will be created.

There are two types of motifs to be created this time. The work involved wrapping string lights around original stainless steel frames inspired by cherry blossoms and autumn leaves from Misuzu Kaneko's poems "Sakura no Ki" (The Cherry Blossom Tree) and "Karta of Fallen Leaves.

The frame is approximately 1 m in length and width, and the number of lights that wrap around it is 300.

Relying on the blueprints, we wind the lights one by one, counting them one by one.

In order to light a nicely shaped light, the lights will be positioned so that they face the outside of the frame.

They wind the lights too much or, conversely, leave too much space between them, and some say, "It's harder than I thought it would be.

Still, everyone is gradually getting the hang of it.

It was impressive to see parents, children, and friends working together, as well as members of the Nagato Yumoto Onsen Tourism Town Development Design Conference and local residents enjoying working together.

It took about one hour to complete one motif.

After completion, the lights are actually turned on and final adjustments are made.

Cherry blossoms are pink and autumn leaves are gold.

After about 3 hours of work, a total of 25 motifs were completed.

Such handmade "Misuzu no Akari motifs" will color the night in Nagato Yumoto Onsen.

The "Otoshinagawa Utaakari" will be held on February 15 (Fri.) and 16 (Sat.).
