Top class in Japan in terms of number of stores!

Nagato City in Yamaguchi Prefecture boasts one of the highest numbers of yakitori restaurants per 10,000 people in Japan. Stores have garlic powder and Ichimi (one seasoning) and Shichimi (seven spice) toppings, and the Nagato way is to eat it according to one's preference.

Many events unique to "Yakitori no Machi Nagato" will be held.

Why are there so many yakitori restaurants?

One of the factors behind the large number of yakitori restaurants is the existence of the Fukagawa Chicken Farmers Cooperative Association, a rare nationwide cooperative specializing in poultry farming that boasts the largest production of broilers in western Japan. Another major factor is the easy availability of fresh chicken meat. Nagato City has long been active in the production of kamaboko, and it is said that the chicken farming industry flourished here because of the abundant and inexpensive supply of fish roe, which is used to feed chickens.

Features of Nagato Yakitori

Yakitori in Nagato City is a so-called "kushiyaki style" that uses various parts of chicken, pork tripe, vegetables, etc., but it is different from those in other areas.

1. Every yakitori restaurant in the city has garlic powder andIchimi or Shichimi (seven spice) toppings, and Nagato's unique way of eating yakitori is to sprinkle them on top of the chicken to suit your taste! Some stores even have yuzukichi kosho, made from Nagato yuzukichi, a specialty of Nagato City.
2. It comes out withonions instead of green onions between the ingredients, and is served with torn cabbage!
3. The yakitori restaurant also offers a menu of fresh local fish sashimi,dried fish, and other seafood!

Choshu Kurokashiwa" is an original chicken produced in Yamaguchi Prefecture, based on the "Kurokashiwa Chicken" designated as a natural treasure, and created as a meat chicken with a focus on economical efficiency and good taste. It is mainly produced in Nagato City.

In Nagato, the city of yakitori (grilled chicken), where the poultry farming industry thrives, you can enjoy gourmet chicken dishes using fresh chicken caught in the morning. One such dish is "Nagatori-men," developed by the Nagato City Employees' Study Group for Things You Can Only Find in Nagato! One of the features of this dish is the "Nagatori-men", which was developed by a voluntary research group of Nagato City employees, the "Nagato Unique Food Study Group"!
