As of April 22, 2016 (Heisei 22), the status of the Tawarayama Shakunage Garden is as follows: Some flowers have fallen off due to the recent rain, but there are still buds, so it looks like you can enjoy the garden for a while. Local volunteers will be selling local specialties and offering coffee and tea until May 8! (Since the late Tetsuo Kanekawa fell in love with a potted shakunage he came across in a supermarket around 1970 and decided to plant it, he has continued to plant it steadily in the hills behind his house and in fallow fields. Tawarayama Shakunage-en was the first organization in Yamaguchi Prefecture to win the grand prize in the 11th "Flower Tourist Attraction Creation Awards" sponsored by the Japan Tourism Association!
