Fun only for this season!

The "sanso" (bicycle touring) is a way to enjoy discoveries and encounters unique to a certain place and time of year by riding a bicycle as if you were taking a stroll.

This time, as part of the "Nagato Scatter Run Project" project, a monitoring tour was conducted from the tourist information center YUKUTE to the Ohihi and Aomi districts of Aomi Island.

The weather was worrisome after a long spell of rain, but the day began with blue skies in the morning, and the temperature soared steadily.

We checked the course, hoping it would not be too hot, and started off.

The most sought-after plant this time is the " Saienji Aobass," which usually blooms from early July to mid-August.

Will we really be able to see the flowers...?

From the tourist information center YUKUTE, take Prefectural Road No. 56 toward Qinghai Island.

Cross the Qinghai Bridge and go straight on Prefectural Road 283.

From the road by the sea, you will go uphill. After driving through the mountains and over a mountain pass, the scenery opens up.

The sun was strong and the day was still and humid, but we could feel a pleasant sea breeze as we pedaled along.

White flowers, heavy petals, beautiful bluebells.

Then we arrived at our first stop, "Hoshu Shonin no Ieori" (Hoshu Shonin no Ieori Hermitage). Locals call it "the hermitage.

Hoshu Shonin, who was praised as one of the three Dainichibi masters, brought back four lotus seeds presented by Koumyouin in Hiroshima in 1822, and sowed them here.

The seeds, said to be 1,400 years old at the time of the gift, sprouted and blossomed beautifully.

Later, the aobas from this area were divided to Saienji, where they still bloom beautifully today.

To my delight, I was able to see two beautiful flowers on two plants. Beyond the blue-green bushes is Dainichi Bentenjima in Senzaki Bay.

The scene is exactly as haiku poet Ozaki Shizukaze wrote, "When the blue lotus shakes, there is the Pure Land.

The next stop was Saienji Temple, a Jodo sect temple.

The temple produced the three great Buddhist priests Hogan, Hoshu, and Hodo from the Edo period to the end of the Edo period, and is also said to be the birthplace of Sunday School.

The main hall, designated as a cultural asset by Yamaguchi Prefecture, has an unusual structure with entrances on both sides. In the lotus pond on the grounds, we saw one large puffy bud and one beautifully open flower.

Contrast between green and blue

After leaving Saienji Temple, stop by "Dainichi Natsumikan Genju" and "Dainichi Sanji Honmyo" before heading to the Qinghai area.

After admiring the beautiful scenery of Lake Aomi, the largest freshwater lake in the prefecture, Fukagawa Bay, and the terraced rice paddies of the Aomi area, selected as one of Yamaguchi's 20 best terraced rice paddies, you can go around the area around Lake Aomi.

Lunch time at the Container Cafe

Wind through the green rice paddies to the container café " Hamachaya Sanki " with a view of the sea.

This restaurant offers set menus of dried and fried fish produced by "Kimura Suisan" adjacent to the cafe.

The Senzaki Bay spreads out before us. We enjoyed a delicious lunch while watching the colorful sightseeing boats pass by from time to time.

After lunch, we stopped by Ojiyama Park, which offers a panoramic view of the Senzaki townscape, to conclude this scattered-run monitoring tour.

We hope that one day many people will enjoy this course as a regular early summer course.
