From today (March 5 [Saturday]) to April 7 (Thursday), the "Onshin River Utaakari 2022" lighting event is being held in the Nagato Yumoto hot spring resort area (lighting hours: from sunset to 22:00).
The Otonoshin River Utaakari has been held annually since fiscal year 2018, and this year, in addition to the three different productions from last year, there are two new ones, for a total of five separate areas available.
On this page, you will find photos of the lighting ceremony held on the first day of the event, as well as scenes from each area.
The venue for the lighting ceremony was Onyu, a drop-in hot spring located in the center of the hot spring resort. The event's organizer, Manager Kimura of Nagato Yumoto Town Corporation, gave the opening remarks, and Nagato City Mayor Ehara also offered his congratulations.
The purpose and outline of the event was then explained, while local elementary school students presented their community development efforts.
After the event at Onnoyu was over, the lights were finally turned on. All the visitors counted down the number of lights to start the "Otonoshigawa Utaakari 2022" event.
In the "Phantom Light Dance Area," various shadow puppets appear as if dancing to music and readings of poems by Misuzu Kaneko.
In the "Misuzu's Garden Area," light motifs created by children from elementary and junior high schools in Nagato City are set up. Various lights such as flowers and birds are lined up in a row.
Large-scale light motifs created by local residents and various others who participated in the Nagato Yumoto Onsen community development workshop are hung along the river.
From the benches along this area, you can get a panoramic view of the "Phantom Light Dance Area" and "Misuzu's Garden Area".
In the "Fish Dreams Area," as in the "Misuzu's Garden Area," cute fish lights created by children in the city are placed. The small fish are arranged to form a large fish.
Lampshades made of Hagi ware are installed along the path connecting the "Phantom Light Dance Area," "Misuzu's Garden Area," and "Fish Dreams Area. These lampshades were made by local 6th graders of Koyo Elementary School with the cooperation of teachers from Fukagawa Kiln of Hagi ware.
In addition to this, a photo contest using Instagram is also being held during the period.
