On August 30, during the "Western Japan Yakitori Festival in Nagato" held at Seaside Square on Aomi Island, the world's longest yakitori was challenged and successfully achieved a world record of 25.05 meters. In accordance with the "Sekachou (World's Longest Yakitori Challenge) Regulations" set by the National Yakitori Liaison Council, the Nagato Sekachou Executive Committee challenged the world record of 13.28m in October 2006, and since then the world record has been set in 2007 (20.71m) and 2008 (23.42m). The current world record is 24.83m held by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Bibai, Hokkaido. This time, the members of the Western Japan Yakitori Festival in Nagato Executive Committee took on the challenge of making the world's longest yakitori with a length of 25 meters to break this record. About 50 people, including members of the executive committee and volunteer staff, carefully skewered 38 kilograms of Choshu black kashikoa on a single bamboo skewer, which took about two hours to cook. The skewers were successfully lifted without dropping any pieces of meat or breaking the skewers, and when Shuichi Higuchi, chief judge of the National Yakitori Liaison Council, declared a world record, the participants and spectators cheered and applauded.
