On Tuesday, December 8, a life-size bronze statue of Ms. Kaneko Misuzu was installed on Misuzu Street in Senzaki, and an unveiling ceremony was held at the site. The statue was created with donations collected from all over Japan by the "Kaneko-Misuzu Bronze Statue Installation Executive Committee (Chairman: Keisuke Kinoshita). It is maintained as a park with stone pavement and plantings. The sculptor is Mr. Kozo Ogawa, a native of Iwakuni City, a professor at Tokyo Zokei University, and a leading sculptor in Japan. The title "Statue of Misuzu Kaneko" and a line from Misuzu's masterpiece "Me, a Little Bird, and a Suzu" (Everyone is different, everyone is good) were written by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. According to Ogawa, the statue depicts Isuzu as an 18-year-old woman, innocent, pure-hearted, pure and warm. After the unveiling ceremony, children from Aoi Kindergarten and Misuzu Kindergarten lit up the clear blue sky with colorful balloons, which added color to the ceremony.
