Hydrangeas at Koutokuji Temple as of June 29, 2017 (Heisei 29).
This year's hydrangeas are almost past their peak, and the best time to see them is likely to be throughout this week.
The main deity is Shakyamuni Buddha. Originally called Mukotsu-an, the temple was renamed Mukotoku-an after the merger with Kaitoku-ji in 1903, and was renamed Mukotoku-ji in the Showa period (1926-1989). The temple is also known as "Hydrangea Temple," and is famous for its hydrangeas.
