Born in Misumi, Nagato City, the Western-style painter, Yasuo Kagetsu left a great mark on the modern Japanese Western-style painting world. The "Kazuki Yasuo Museum of Art" was built to pass on his achievements to future generations, and exhibits oil paintings, drawings, prints, and other works that have been carefully preserved by the Kazuki family since his death. The museum is currently holding a special exhibition, "Flowers and Animals: The Inhabitants of the Kagetsu Family Kitchen Mural". The mural, which Yasuo Kagetsu himself painted with his own paintbrush on the mortar in the kitchen of the house where he lived, is said to be "an illustrated book of plants and seafood, as well as a painting filled with Yasuo's wish for his family to please his grandchildren who would be born in the near future. He also wanted to please his grandchildren who would be born in the future. This exhibition explores what is depicted in the murals that remain in the kitchen of the Kagetsu family, and introduces works that take up the same subject matter. We hope you will enjoy the works of "Flowers and Animals" that Yasuo Kagetsu thought of his family.
