On Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Tawarayama Onsen Festival was held in the Tawarayama Onsen district. This two-day festival features traditional Tawarayama Kabuki performances, children's portable shrines (mikoshi), and street dances. This article reports on the events of the first day.
The festival began with a dedication by the Tawarayama KABUKI Club. They performed the "Kotobuki Gonin Sanbaso," a dance to pray for world peace and a bountiful harvest.

A chorus group named after the Tawarayama Shakunage (Rhododendron) Garden. The performance concluded with a rock-paper-scissors game, where winners were presented with gifts.

Children gathered with great curiosity to watch the Chindon-ya (traditional musical marching band) performance, which was filled with cheers and laughter.

Local children paraded through the streets carrying a portable shrine. Their joyful smiles were everywhere as their rhythmic chants of "Wasshoi!" echoed throughout the town.

This festival will continue tomorrow, Sunday the 19th, so please come and join us!
