Mosaic of Misuzu Kaneko combined with Senzaki's specialty Kamaboko boards
Project M" has been undertaken since 2004, led by local young people. The project consists of Kamaboko boards, a specialty of Senzaki, and creates mosaic paintings with a motif of the children's song poet, Misuzu Kaneko. Each kamaboko board is filled with messages by visitors and citizens of Nagato City, and has been produced annually since 2004. Project M20000," displayed in a former JA warehouse in the middle of Misuzu Street in Senzaki, Nagato City, expresses the world of Misuzu Kaneko's poem "Big Fishing" by combining 20,000 kamaboko boards. This "Project M20000" has a trick: by pressing a switch inside the room, a large school of giant sardines illuminated by a black light comes to life. On the wall in front of the entrance, a portrait of Misuzu Kaneko by illustrator Shingo Ozaki is printed, and on the wall by the parking lot, a smaller version of a giant mosaic artwork consisting of 120,000 photographs is printed. The mosaic art made of kamaboko boards with a motif of Misuzu Kaneko is displayed at six locations on Misuzu Street in Senzaki (Senzaki Station, in front of Matsuura Shoten, next to Senzaki Post Office, in front of Misuzu Kaneko Memorial Museum, former JA warehouse, and building in front of Senzaki Fishery Cooperative) and two locations in Nagato Yumoto Onsen, providing excellent photo opportunities for tourists visiting the city.
