Sunday, February 2, 2025 is Setsubun. Bean-throwing, ehomaki, and other Setsubun-related events are held throughout Japan.
One of the popular Setsubun events in Nagato City is "Oni no Bok" (devil's stick). It is a candy produced by Toraya, a confectionery store in the Senzaki area, and is sold only during this season and distributed at nursery schools in the city.
Another Nagato tradition for Setsubun is to eat a large whale to ward off evil spirits, which is served mainly in the Kaoyo district of Aomi Island, which used to be the center of old-style whaling.
These are available at Senza Kitchen, a roadside station, as well as at supermarkets in the city. Please check out these Nagato style Setsubun items when you stop by.
