Local residents and elementary school students set up the venue

Finally, tomorrow, January 19 (Thursday), the "Onshinagawa Utaakari 2023" lighting event will begin in the Nagato Yumoto hot spring resort area.

Preparations are steadily underway in the Nagato Yumoto hot spring resort area, and this morning the area around Onyu Plaza, the center of the hot spring resort, was set up.

The setup was mainly done by volunteers from the local community and those involved in the event, as well as students from the nearby Koyo Elementary School. Everyone enjoyed chatting and working together.

Paper light motifs are set up in the plaza. These were created by children from kindergartens, nursery schools, elementary schools, and junior high schools in the city.

Students from Mukaiyo Elementary School also set up "Dochi-akari," or "clay light," which is a lighting device made of Hagi ware. The students and the artist from Fukagawa Kiln worked together to make these lights.
