Promoting the Attractiveness of Nagato City through Cycle Tourism
Nagato City is promoting "Cycle Tourism," which allows visitors to enjoy a trip to Nagato City more through "Scatter Riding," a slow bicycle ride as if taking a stroll. The "Nagato Yumoto Onsen x Scattering Fair" was held in Tokyo from March 2 to 28, 2012.
The venue is LIFE CREATION SPACE OVE, a concept store of bicycle parts manufacturer SHIMANO in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo. and " TORQUE SPICE & HERB, TABLE & COURT ", a cycle cafe in Shibuya, Tokyo.
During the fair, panels and pamphlets introduced the "spectacular scenery," "food," "hot springs," and "scattering" of Nagato City at both venues, and a limited-time menu using Nagato City ingredients was served. In addition, an exchange event was held for those interested in Nagato Yumoto Onsen community development and future town planning for bicycles.
In this issue, we report on the fair held over a month.
LIFE CREATION SPACE OVE
LIFE CREATION SPACE OVE" is a space where you can enjoy new ways to enjoy bicycles, cafes, furniture, sundries, art events, and many other things.
During the fair, visitors were free to take home cycling maps and pamphlets, and those who responded to a questionnaire were given goods such as Nagato Yumoto Onsen original sakosh, tenugui hand towels, onsen no moto (hot spring water), and ramune (a Japanese sweet made of sugar and sugar).
The OVE café staff prepared a limited-time menu of "Hanakkori and Guru Curry Udon" using a variety of Nagato ingredients, including Hanakkori, to create a dish that is healthy for the body and mind. Seasonings and "Nagato Yuzukichi Confiture" used in the cafe's limited-time menu were also sold as select goods.
TORQUE SPICE & HERB, TABLE & COURT
TORQUE SPICE & HERB, TABLE & COURT" supports workers who commute by bicycle under the concept of "Cyclist Friendly" and provides a "place" to interact through hobbies and interests, as well as information, events and community space for cyclists. It also provides information, events, and community space for cyclists.
Here, panels, pamphlets, and videos provided tourist information on Nagato City, and "Grilled Choshu Chicken with Yuzu Kosho" and "Chicken Nanban with Black Kashiwa & Grilled Hanakkori" were offered as a limited-time menu. The deliciousness of Yamaguchi Prefecture's brand chicken, "Choshu Dori" and Yamaguchi Prefecture's local chicken, "Choshu Kuro Kashiwa" were also introduced.
Talking about Nagato Yumoto Onsen and future town planning by bicycle
During the fair, an exchange event was held on Saturday, March 27 at TORQUE SPICE & HERB, TABLE & COURT. The event brought together people interested in the community development of Nagato Yumoto Onsen and the future town development of bicycles.
First, Ms. Chisato Shiraishi from the "Nagato Cycle Tourism Promotion Council" introduced a menu using Nagato ingredients.
The day's menu included "Grilled Choshu Dori with Nagato Yuzukichi Pepper," "Choshu Black Kashiwa Nanban Style," "Pasta with Hahakkori and Little Shrimp in Cream Sauce," and "Cheesecake with Nagato Yuzukichi Confiture. The event began in a friendly atmosphere as participants tasted the menu, which was full of ingredients from Nagato City.
Next, Ms. Emi Murotani, Manager of LIFE CREATION SPACE OVE, introduced OVE's advocacy of "scattering," its nationwide network of scattering, fairs held in collaboration with various communities, and scattering events at OVE.
Area Manager Hayato Kimura of Nagato Yumoto Onsen Machi Co., Ltd. then took the podium to introduce the Nagato Yumoto Onsen Tourism Town Development Project.
At first, we talked about tourist spots in Nagato City and sightseeing tours around Nagato City. Then, he explained about the main ingredients of today's main menu, Choshu chicken and Choshu black kashirawa, and explained that Nagato City is both a production and consumption center, has the largest number of yakitori restaurants per population in Japan, and the background of the city's promotion as a sacred place for yakitori.
He also spoke about Nagato City's Wood Start system, wood education, and the Nagato Toy Museum of Art as efforts to carefully pass on the workings of the mountains, and from a cultural perspective, the hometown of children's song poet Misuzu Kaneko and painter Yasuo Kozuki, known for his Sibeliya series.
He then explained the history of Nagato Yumoto Onsen, which is said to be a divine hot spring, the "Onyu" (a stopover hot spring), his wish as a hot spring guardian to "enjoy the hot spring as it was when it was first created," and the "Nagato Yumoto Onsen Tourism Town Development Project" to transform the area into a hot spring resort where visitors can enjoy strolling around under the theme of "Osoto Tengoku" (Paradise in Osoto) in spring 2020. The "Nagato Yumoto Onsen Tourism Town Development Project," which will lead to the rebirth of the hot spring resort, where visitors can enjoy a stroll in spring 2020 under the theme "Osoto Tengoku.
The "Nagato Yumoto Hot Springs Tourism Town Development Project," led by a team comprised of government officials, local businesses, and outside experts, was awarded the 2020 Good Design Award and the "Furusato Meihin of the Year: Regional Development Grand Prize (Minister of State for Regional Development Award)" through social experiments, workshops, and local events that enable visitors to experience the hot springs resort of the future. The project won the Good Design Award for 2020 and the "Furusato Meihin of the Year: Grand Prize for Regional Development (Minister of State for Regional Development Award)".

Next, Mr. Masahiro Katagishi of Nihonkai Consultant Co., Ltd. took the stage to talk about "the attractiveness of Naganaga's dispersion and future town planning for autos and cars". Mr. Katagishi is in charge of transportation for the "Nagauchi-Yumoto Onsen Tourism Town Development Design Conference", aiming to "create a walkable hot spring resort town". He has worked hard to create a "walkable hot spring resort town" where people are the core of the community.
In addition, from the current state of mobility in the hot spring resort of Nagauchi-Yumoto, we focused on the experience value that cannot be obtained in "auto-cars" and focused on "auto-cycles" that enrich people's lives through transportation.
It was introduced that Nihonkai Consultants and the Nagato City Tourism & Convention Association will collaborate in the creation of a rental bicycle business and in the planning and implementation of the Nagato Scattering Program.
In the future, with the aim of discovering and utilizing the attractiveness of the hot springs and surrounding areas of Long Father Yumoto, and creating "experience value" for guests and visitors, we plan to develop a bicycle rental business in Long Father Yumoto hot springs.
At the end of the event, a fun raffle was held, with prizes such as "Nagato Yumoto Hot Springs Pair Accommodation Coupons" given to participants.
This was a valuable opportunity for us to promote the charms of Nagato City and convey our hope that visitors will enjoy their trip to Nagato City more through "Sansride. Scattering" is a style of bicycle touring that allows visitors to enjoy encounters and discoveries that are unique to the place and time in which they are riding, as if they were taking a stroll on a bicycle, while experiencing things of value in addition to the things they are doing.
We will continue to plan and promote "scattering rides" that are unique to our city so that many people will first learn how to enjoy their time by using bicycles without "riding a bike" as an end in itself.
