Open garden full of roses

On Friday, May 24, the Satoyama Rose in the Tawarayama district of Nagato City opened again this year.

This is a rose garden started by a couple about 15 years ago with the purpose of managing their family's garden, abandoned farmland, and surrounding forests in an effort to revitalize a devastated satoyama.

On Friday the 24th, the first day of the open garden, the parking lot was full within 30 minutes of the garden opening, and some of the cars were from out-of-town and out-of-prefecture license plates. Last year, over 1,400 visitors came to "Satoyama Rose" to view the many roses, plants native to Tawarayama, and horticultural plants and flowers. This year, many people were looking forward to this open garden again.

Into the Story

In the garden, handmade signs, rose tunnels, and roses floating on water can be seen in various places. Visitors can enjoy viewing the roses as if they have stepped into a story, which makes for a very relaxing experience.
