300 people parade down Misuzu Street

On Sunday, October 6, "Nagato Halloween 2019" was held, with participants in costume parading down Senzaki Misuzu Street.

This event was first held in October 2017, when the direct sales building of the Roadside Station Senza Kitchen opened, and this year marked its third year. Organized by "Bokura no Nagato," a community group consisting mainly of people in their 20s who live or work in the city, the staff also dressed up in costume to welcome the approximately 300 participants.

Children who stop by the Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum and stores along Misuzu Street during the parade echo "Trick or Treat! (Give us candy or we'll play tricks on you!).

The community members who greeted them at the door were all smiles and presented them with sweets.

Play and eat at Senza Kitchen, Roadside Station

The roadside station Senza Kitchen, where the parade will finish, will have a fair booth and stage for the day only.

Participants who received a wristband at the registration desk can play for free at this booth.

After enjoying shooting and ring toss while talking with the staff, visitors will taste gourmet food from popcorn, frankfurters, and other street vendors.

While waiting in line at the booths, the emcee and committee chairperson interview participants with a microphone in hand.

This year again, participants came not only from Nagato City, but also from various cities and towns in the prefecture.

Vibrant costume contest

In the afternoon, when the rain began to fall, a "costume contest" was held on the stage in front of the tourist information center YUKUTE.

Seventeen groups will enter the competition and take turns to go up on stage for interviews.

On this day, 90% of the entries were children.

The parents and children have been preparing together for the event, including handmade costumes, accessories, and makeup that they are proud of.

Some of the parents and children said it took them almost a month to create their costumes.

Even though we could not see their faces, we could feel the passion they had put into their productions just from their voices, and the children watching on stage had surprised expressions on their faces.

At the end of the event, five winners will be selected by voting, and will receive a fugu sashimi set and meal coupons for restaurants in the city.

The first prize was awarded to a group of nine friends who entered the competition, and there were loud cheers when the announcement was made.

In between contests, children danced to music played around the stage.

Participants enjoyed the parade, fair, and stage in a variety of costumes and had a great time on Halloween.

Senza Kitchen, a roadside station that is a hub for transportation and tourism in Nagato City, is also a popular venue for events and exchanges. Today, many tourists stopped by to say, "It's Halloween," bringing a vibrant atmosphere to this place.
