First Akasaki Festival in 3 years

On Sunday, September 11, the Akasaki Festival will be held in the vicinity of Akasaki Shrine in the Higashifukagawa district of Nagato City. This festival is held around the Akasaki Gakujiki (designated by the national government as an important tangible folk cultural property). The festival began around 1596 (Keicho 1) when an epidemic of cattle and horse diseases broke out in the area, and people prayed to Akasaki Shrine, which is dedicated to the guardian god of agriculture, and were cured of their illnesses.

*Note that there will be no eve celebration in 2022; it will be held only on Sunday, September 11.
