It's firefly-watching season!

In early summer, fireflies can be seen in many places in Nagato City. Why not go for a night stroll to see the fantastic scenery of soft fluttering lights?

On this page, you will find information about viewing spots in the city as well as photos and information submitted by visitors.

Viewing Points

  • Time: Late May to early June (in some areas, they start dancing from mid-May)
  • Hours: Sunset to around 9:00 p.m. (peaks at 8:00 p.m.)
  • Conditions: Cloudy, windless, 20 degrees or higher
  • Note: Please view quietly so as not to disturb neighbors.

Firefly Viewing Spots in the City

1: Shibuki Station - near the former Ohata Elementary School

  • Address: Shibuki, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture
  • Access: 10-minute walk from JR Shibuki Station, 20-minute drive from Mine IC on Chugoku Expressway
  • Parking: JR Shibuki Station *Temporary parking is available during the event (former Ohata Elementary School ground)
  • Toilet : JR Shibuki station

2: Shibuki: Near Firefly Bridge

  • Address: Shibuki, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture
  • Access: 15 minutes on foot from JR Shibuki Station, 20 minutes by car from the Mine IC on the Chugoku Expressway
  • Parking : JR Shibuki Station
  • Toilet : JR Shibuki station

3: Tawarayama Nanae River River Park area

  • Address: Nanae, Tawarayama, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture
  • Access: 50 minutes by car from the Mine IC of the Chugoku Expressway

4: Around Misumi Fir Tree Bridge

  • Address: Misumi Kamisumi-Munegashira, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture
  • Access: 5 min. walk from Sougou bus stop / 45 min. drive from Mine IC on Chugoku Expressway
  • Parking: Nagato City Munetou Cultural Center (Hours of operation: 8:30-22:00)
  • Restroom : Nagato City Munetou Cultural Center (Available from 8:30 to 22:00)
