The Nagato History and Folklore Museum (former Nagato City Board of Education), located along Route 316 in Higashi-Fukagawa, Nagato City, is holding the special exhibition "The Charm of Oumi Island" until Sunday, December 15.
Qinghai Island is known as the "Maritime Alps" because of the oddly shaped rocks, mysterious shores, and caves created by nature in the sea.
The name "Maritime Alps" was given by Kendo Yokoyama, a native of Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, in 1919, and this year marks the 100th anniversary of the event.
In this issue, we focus on the formation of the land in Qinghai Island.
Professor Emeritus Teruki Imaoka of Yamaguchi University, who has studied the geology of Qinghai Island for many years, says, "Qinghai Island is one of the best places in Japan to see the products of magma activity about 90 million years ago.
Other exhibits included tuff collected from Qinghai Island, which was presumably formed by a massive pyroclastic flow at that time.
In addition to the "Maritime Alps," Qinghai Island offers a wealth of scenic, experiential, and culinary attractions, including a town with an ancient whaling culture, diving and snorkeling activities, and the Semura oyster, a rock oyster about three times the size of a true oyster.
The free paper "Nagatoto, " featuring articles on the " Cheonghae Island Republic," which serves as a base for local activities on Cheonghae Island, and the "Cheonghae Island Tourist Steamship," which offers maritime alps from the ship, is also being distributed. A space where visitors can experience the charm of Qinghai Island from a variety of perspectives is spreading.
The event will be held until Sunday, December 15. When you visit Qinghai Island, be sure to stop by here as well.
