When I went to the street, I went to Whale Street.
The "Kayoi" district, located on the eastern edge of Aomi Island in Nagato City, once prospered from old-fashioned whaling.
A new short trip has now started, in which visitors can go ashore by sightseeing boat and walk around the village of the old-style whaling.
The tour will be held only on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from January 11 (Sat) to February 29 (Sat), 2020. You can join the tour from the Qinghai Island Kanko Kisen boat stop, just as you would on a regular sightseeing boat. After February 8 (Sat), the tour will be available only on Saturdays and Sundays.
After about 15 to 20 minutes of rocking on the boat, you will arrive at the harbor of Dori, lined with fishing boats.
A building with a large whale on its roof catches the eye. This is the Whale Museum, which exhibits various materials such as whaling tools and photographs from that time. At this place, which can be said to be the symbol of the Dori area, you can first look at the valuable materials and think about the life in those days.

The next stop was the "Qinghai Island Whale Tomb," where villagers are said to have mourned the fetuses that were released when the mother whales were once captured and dismembered. Behind the grave, more than 70 fetuses lie.
After passing through the alley, we came to the sea on the east side.
This is the "Dancho Wharf," a masonry breakwater built to remove moss from whale nets.
Finally, we arrived at Kougan-ji Temple, which is located on a hill.
The "Whale Memorial Service," which has a history of more than 300 years, conveys the spirit of the people who faced and lived with whales.
