The Nagato-Tawarayama Road connecting Nagato-Yumoto Onsen and Tawarayama opened at 17:00 on Sunday, September 8.
This is a 5.5-km automobile-only road running between the Nagato Yumoto Onsen IC and the Tawarayama Kita IC.
The Nagato Yumoto Onsen to Tawarayama section, which had been the main route of the Shimonoseki Nagato Route, is a section with many elevation changes and curves. The road is often closed during heavy rains, which greatly affects the flow of tourists and the lives of local residents, so there were high expectations for the opening of the road.
When coming to Nagato City from Shimonoseki, it takes about 5 minutes from the Tawarayama Kita IC to reach the Nagato Yumoto Onsen IC. At the IC, there are signs that say "Nagato Yumoto Onsen" when turning right and "Road Station Senza Kitchen" when turning left.
Tawarayama Onsen and Tawarayama Spa Stadium are also much closer now that they are open.
Visitors will be able to experience the charms of the Tawarayama area more than ever before, such as visiting hot springs and watching rugby games.
On Sunday, September 1, one week before the opening, an event was held to commemorate the opening.
The Nagato City Tourism and Convention Association will simultaneously hold a cycling event titled "Opening Commemoration RIDE. This is the only day that bicycles are allowed to ride on the road, as it is an automobile-only road.
The Tourist Information Center "YUKUTE" will be at the venue.
About 60 participants, including some on their own road bikes, departed from the Nagato Yumoto Onsen IC.
Mayor Onishi rode a "two-seater tandem bicycle," one of the most popular rental bicycles in the city.
This is the one that will make your special one-day cycling experience even more memorable.
There are a total of five types of rental bikes, including cross bikes, electric bicycles, and mountain bikes for children.
They are usually available for rent at the tourist information center "YUKUTE" in Senza Kitchen, Michi no Eki (Roadside Station), so please use them for sightseeing in the city.
